The Morongo Basin Healthcare District Board of Directors met in regular session last night, with a resolution to donate district funds to Mara’s Christmas Wish project. Reporter Eric Knabe has the highlights…
The resolution broke into a lengthy discussion before its vote.
Originally, Secretary Joe Sullivan felt the proposed amount of a $1,000 was more than adequate, but then thought of the people in the Morongo Basin in peril and he felt the need to increase the amount to $2,500. Vice President Bob Armstrong stated as stewards of people’s money, he was opposed to using public funds in this manner and that it would establish a dangerous precedent. Board President Marge Doyle stated that other groups have asked for donations and they have been turned down. In the end, three votes yes, one vote no, with treasurer Paul Hoffman abstaining. The resolution was approved for $2,500.
