The Morongo Basin Healthcare District Board of Trustees held a special meeting last night to discuss plans to distribute food to Morongo Basin residents in need. Reporter Hilary Sloane has the details…
Extreme circumstances caused by the current coronavirus pandemic has put a strain on food banks. Aging volunteers are self-isolating, and with the closure of so many restaurants, food donations are scarce. The Morongo Basin Healthcare District met last night to address the needs of a community out of work. After a lengthy discussion, the board approved $500,000 over the next three months for food distribution.
The discussion included various resources of food suppliers, donations of funds to Morongo Basin non-profits serving the same purpose, food supplies to school age children, possibilities of distribution centers, and service to those who cannot drive. Further details will be supplied by staff at the next meeting on Thursday.
