HAY TRUCK TIPS IN YUCCA VALLEY, ONE INJURED

A Joshua Tree man sitting at a stop sign in Yucca Valley was in the wrong place at the wrong time yesterday, when a trailer full of hay fell on his van and sent him to the hospital. According to Sheriff’s Deputy Adrian Garcia, Kenneth Sanderson, 58, newly arrived from Oregon, was waiting at the stop sign at the Highway 62 Outer Highway and Old Woman Springs Road. Raymundo Sanson, 45, was driving a semi-truck and hauling two trailers filled with hay bales eastbound on Highway 62 at 11:43 a.m. when he took the turn too fast onto northbound Old Woman Springs Road. The hay on the second trailer shifted during the turn, causing the second trailer to overturn onto Sanderson’s VW Euro van and pushing the van into the curb.

Sanderson was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center with neck pain. The number 2 lane of northbound Old Woman Springs Road was closed for two hours as workers from Cal Trans and Pioneer Feed in Joshua Tree removed the hay from the road and put it and the overturned trailer in a nearby vacant lot. The owner of the hay in Tulare will send a semi-truck down today to pick up the hay and the trailer.
