Have you ever wondered if you’re allowed to grow your own Marijuana in the Morongo Basin?

 While recreational cannabis use and limited cultivation is legal in California for adults 21 and older, each county has its own regulations when it comes to growing marijuana. According to San Bernardino County land use services, Cannabis Enforcement Program in unincorporated areas of the Morongo Basin such as Joshua Tree, Desert Heights, Landers or Wonder Valley, a recreational user may grow up to six (6) marijuana plants within their private residence or inside a fully enclosed and secure accessory structure. Qualified cannabis patients with medical marijuana ID cards may cultivate up to twelve plants each within a private residence, but no more than thirty plants total are permitted.

According to the American legal code library, 9.53.040: MARIJUANA CULTIVATION PROHIBITED; EXCEPTION: the Town of Yucca Valley prohibits all marijuana cultivation, “except that a person may cultivate no more than six (6) living marijuana plants inside his or her private residence, or inside an accessory structure to his or her private residence located upon the grounds of that private residence.” 

The City of Twentynine Palms allows adults (21+) to grow six marijuana plants per residence regardless of their medical status or how many residents occupy the home. Cannabis plants may not be seen or smelled from outside the residence.

Outdoor cultivation is prohibited throughout the Morongo Basin. In all cases a cannabis grower may not under any circumstances sell what they grow.

However, growing personal cannabis does not means free consumption. Remember, only indoor cultivation is allowed in San Bernardino County so instead of utilizing all that free desert sun and wind energy, electricity must be generated in order to run fans, lights, heating and cooling. Cannabis plants require good soil and specific nutrients for every stage of growth. It’s very time consuming and involves daily pH and soil moisture metering and maintenance, biweekly organic feeding and hours of daily hovering and fussing if excellent cannabis is to be the finished product.
