Danny “Big Black” Ray celebrated his 84th birthday this week, and to celebrate, Harrison House will hold a special event Sunday morning that will feature excerpts of the performances he’s done at Harrison House. Ray is a singer-songwriter, drummer, and actor. He was the first to integrate African hand drums into modern calypso and jazz music. He has performed with Lord Flea, Billy Cook, Muddy Waters, BB King, Dizzy Gillespie, and many others. He also had an appearance in the classic Mel Brooks’ film “Blazing Saddles.” The Big Black celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday on louharrisonhouse.org.
