HARRISON HOUSE PREMIERS “BITS AND PIECES” VIDEO

“Bits and Pieces,” a music performance filmed partially at the Harrison House in Joshua Tree, is now available for viewing online. Reporter Heather Clisby has details…

Inspired by Lou Harrison’s “Concerto for Pipa,” a new performance video “Bits and Pieces” is now available on YouTube. At 10 ½ minutes, the film features a musical performance built around the pipa, a pear-shaped lute used in traditional Chinese music, as well as Korean and Japanese. Wu Man, a world-renowned musician, plays the pipa in the video, and is accompanied by a string quintet, The Knights, and dancer Maile Okamura.

Directed by Kyle Johnson and Maile Okamura with cinematography by Fiona Digney, the video was filmed partially at Harrison House in Joshua Tree and in San Diego.

“Bits and Pieces” is a collaboration between San Diego’s Art of Élan and The Harrison House, and was commissioned by The Metropolitan Museum’s Department of Musical Instruments. To view the video, visit the link below.
