HAM RADIO OPERATORS FIELD EXERCISE THIS WEEKEND

Local ham radio operators will join others around the nation for the annual field day exercise this weekend. Managing editor Tami Roleff invites you to see the invaluable service they provide…

When the Morongo Basin was rocked by the Landers earthquake in June 1992, local ham radio operators commandeered the airwaves, helping to get emergency aid to those in need. Volunteer ham radio operators assist with non-emergency community events as well. Local amateur operators will join thousands of others in remote locations across the U.S. June 28 and 29. Known as Field Day, the training exercise helps improve knowledge and operating skills, prepare operators for emergencies, and will introduce the public to the world of amateur ham radio. The Morongo Basin Amateur Radio Club’s Field Day will be at the Yucca Mesa Community Center at 3133 Balsa Ave. in Yucca Valley, and goes for 24 hours straight, starting at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
