HALLOWEEN EVENTS IN YUCCA VALLEY, TWENTYNINE PALMS, JOSHUA TREE, AND MORONGO VALLEY

Get your scariest, funniest, and most original costumes and pumpkins ready for the Halloween Spooktacular, sponsored by the Town of Yucca Valley and the Hi-Desert Nature Museum on Saturday, October 31. The costume contest will be divided into age groups. Registration begins at 1 p.m. in the Yucca Room at the community center on Halloween; judging begins at 3 p.m. Managing editor Tami Roleff joins us with details about the Spooktacular’s carved pumpkin contest…
Drop off your carved or decorated pumpkins between 1 and 2 p.m. on Halloween in the Ocotillo Room in the Yucca Valley Community Center. Categories for the carved pumpkin contest are scariest, funniest, most original, and best in show. All pumpkins must be able to stand upright on their own and the bottom of the pumpkins must be removed so that it can be set over an LED light. Prizes will be awarded at 5 p.m., and pumpkins must be picked up by 6 p.m. For complete contest rules, check hidesertnaturemuseum.org.

The Twentynine Palms Park and Recreation Department is holding a Halloween fun fest Saturday, October 31, for children ages 10 and under. The fun fest will include games, candy, and a not-so-scary haunted house. This free event is presented as an alternative to traditional trick-or-treating. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Twentynine Palms Community Center, 74325 Joe Davis Drive. Call 760-367-7562 for more information.

One80 Ministries will hold a harvest festival and chili contest Saturday, October 31. The entry fee for the chili cooking contest is only $5, and there are three categories: hot, mild, and soup. The harvest festival will include candy for the kids, games and a bounce house, face painting, and prizes. The festival starts at 4 p.m. One80 Ministries is located at 6414 Hallee Road in Joshua Tree.

Looking for a safe place for children to trick or treat? The United Methodist Church of Twentynine Palms will be hosting a trunk and treat in its parking lot at 6250 Mesquite Spring Road from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Trunks will be decorated and fun will abound. Come join them for a safe Halloween.

This Halloween night, October 31, Morongo Valley children age 5 and above, are invited to meet at the Geeson Ball Field on Park Blvd. for a haunted Halloween walk. The evening walk starts at 6:30 p.m. Bring a small flashlight. No open-toe shoes and no dogs are permitted. Those who make it to the end of the haunted walk will be rewarded with candy and refreshments at Morongo Valley Fire Station. Children under age 5 are welcome to go straight to the fire station.
