A new exhibit is now on display at the Art Queen East Village Gallery, with the evocative title, “Hair Pop Out Mania.” Reporter Jef Harmatz tells us more about the wild and colorful art on display…
Los Angeles based artist Dylan Smith brings his vibrantly patterned depictions of the female form to Joshua Tree. Smith’s work in this exhibition pays tribute to the strong female influences in his life and in pop culture. The show’s unusual title, “Hair Pop Out Mania,” refers to Smith’s use of hair clips and other mixed media in his paintings and assemblages, giving his subject’s extravagantly realized hair a three-dimensional effect. The exhibit is currently on display and runs until November 28. The Art Queen East Village Gallery is located at 61855 29 Palms Highway in downtown Joshua Tree, and is open on weekends and most weekdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
