GRAND OPENING OF FREEDOM PLAZA IN TWENTYNINE PALMS SET FOR MARCH 12

After surmounting numerous obstacles, the city of Twentynine Palms will host a grand opening of the downtown redevelopment project formerly known as Project Phoenix. Re-named as Freedom Plaza, an all-day public celebration is planned for Saturday, March 12, beginning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m.

In addition to the weekly Farmers Market happening on the paseo, Rediscover 29 will host “Party at the Plaza” from 2:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. featuring vendors, live bands, a late-night silent disco, and a beer garden. For the full line-up, look for the links in this story at Z1077fm.com:

The new complex at Freedom Plaza includes the 11,000-square-foot Community Center, the 4,100-square-foot Joshua Tree National Park Cultural and Visitor Center, the 10,000-square-foot entry plaza, a large stage, and a three-block-long paseo. The Community Center includes a gymnasium and a professional-grade kitchen that will be used to teach culinary arts to students from local high schools and Copper Mountain College.

The Joshua Tree National Park Cultural and Visitor Center includes the Native American Museum that will showcase local native artifacts previously unseen.
