In greener places, some people memorialize their infatuations by savaging trees with hearts and initials. Here, they paint on rocks. Reporter Dan Stork tells about a recent spate of vandalism on private property in Joshua Tree…
When returning home on March 5, Joshua Tree resident Christine Pfranger noticed extensive defacement of rocks on a neighbor’s property. A sheriff’s deputy who responded to the complaint told her that police can’t do much, and depend upon the citizenry for information. Pfranger told us that she asked the Mojave Desert Land Trust how to clean up the markings, and was advised to use a product called “Elephant Snot,” which goes for $400 for five gallons. Pictures of some of the defacements appear with this story at z1077fm.com. If you know who “Steve & Kristina” or “Brandon” might be, the Sheriff’s Department would like to know, too.
