GOVERNOR NEWSOM AUTHORIZES CREATION OF CALIFORNIA DESERT CONSERVATION PROGRAM

The passage of a recent California assembly bill means good news for organizations that conserve California desert lands. According to a news release from The Mojave Desert Land Trust, Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed Assembly Bill 1183 into law. The new law authorizes the creation of the California Desert Conservation Program under the state Wildlife Conservation Board. The law will allow funding from future bond measures and other sources to be allocated to the Mojave and Colorado Deserts for the acquisition, restoration, and management of conservation lands. It will also provide funding for public education, use, and access. Details on the law’s impact on local conservation efforts will be released over the coming months.
