Congress had until midnight Friday to pass a spending bill that included $5 billion for a border wall. If Congress passed a spending bill that does not include the $5 billion, Donald Trump has threatened to veto the bill. If a spending bill does not pass, or if Trump vetoes the bill, Joshua Tree National Park will cut back services. Park Superintendent David Smith said the park will begin an orderly shutdown at 9 p.m. Friday. “All visitor centers and restrooms will be closed and all staff will be furloughed. We will have a skeleton crew of Law Enforcement rangers available to respond to illegal activities or emergencies. Similarly, fire will be available to respond to emergency events. The campgrounds and park will stay open per directions from the administration, but no staff will be available to check visitors in or charge fees.”
