GOVERNMENT SHUT-DOWN ENDS; FEDERAL EMPLOYEES TO GO BACK TO WORK TUESDAY

Federal workers will go back to work today (Tuesday) after Congress finally passed a government spending bill Monday, and the bill was signed by Donald Trump Monday night. For 69 hours, the government was shut down and non-essential federal employees were furloughed Monday. Rangers should be back at work at Joshua Tree National Park today, and facilities on board the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center should also re-open. During the government shut-down, Joshua Tree National Park was still open, although park visitor centers were closed, and rangers were not available. No permits were issued, trash was not collected, restrooms and campgrounds were not maintained, and educational programs were not held. The bill that was passed Monday only funds the government for three more weeks, through February 8.
