GOOD NEWS COMES IN THREES FOR YUCCA VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Yucca Valley Elementary School has started the academic year with three pieces of good news, according to YVES Principal Jolie Kelley. Last week, the school was named one of the top 10 growth schools in the county when Academic Performance Index scores were released. Yucca Valley’s API came in at 802, an increase of 35 points. Right before school started, Target awarded the school with a $2,000 community grant to institute a drama program. “Drama in the Desert” will be offering theater arts opportunities to students throughout the year. Last year, the school saw improvements to the stage in preparation for the program. YVES has also become a 4-H school, and this fall, will be offering a series of 4-H enrichment courses, including entomology, leadership, and geospacial geography.
