It was good news and bad news for supporters of a dog park in Twentynine Palms. Reporter David Haldane says the city council approved a smaller version of the park, just barely…
There’s good news and bad news for dog owners in Twentynine Palms. The good news is that they may soon have a dedicated park in which to walk their hounds. The bad news: that it won’t be quite as elaborate as originally planned.
The Twentynine Palms City Council last night approved phase one of a planned dog park in the popular Knott’s Sky Park, but not before chiseling the price tag down from nearly $190,000 to 160,000. And two council members – Cora Heiser and McArthur Wright – voted against the dog park altogether.
Heiser later explained why. “I think the money could be better spent somewhere else. We have a big desert; I have dogs and take them on walks all the time. Again, like I say, we can’t just keep saying yes to everything.”
Nonetheless, the Council approved a final master plan for Knott’s Sky Park entailing improvements that could cost nearly $5 million. Members were quick to point out, though, that no funding has yet been secured.
