“Stories and stewardship,” is the name given to a major clean up effort set for this Saturday, September 25 at the iconic Giant Rock in Landers. It’s all part of National Public Lands Day. Reporter Mike Lipsitz is here with the details…
Produced in conjunction with the Bureau of Land Management, Saturday’s cleanup is the sixth annual community-wide cleanup at storied Giant Rock. Volunteers are asked to sign in and complete a BLM volunteer agreement when they register at the rock beginning at 8 a.m. Save time by accessing the agreement in advance and bringing it with you. See this story at z1077FM.com for a link. Volunteers will want to wear appropriate clothing including gloves and a hat, bring water, and tools such as rakes and shovels; bags will be provided. Those with trucks and dump cards are particularly encouraged to participate and assist with hauling trash to the landfill when the event ends at noon. Work breaks are planned around the opening of an online art exhibit, Voices From the Vortex. A complimentary lunch will be provided through the generosity of $5 Pizza in Landers.
