Furstwurld, the iconic underground performance and art space in Joshua Tree, was recently shuttered by the county. Funds from the fundraiser will go to the non-profit organization that oversees the venue and art space, and will be used to secure appropriate county permitting and other options for the continued operation of the space.
On Sunday (June 4), Seth Zaharias announced that the fundraiser raised approximately $50,000 for the non-profit. He declined to provide the specific number of money raised, but said that the estimate was within a few hundred dollars of the final number. Final totals were tabulated late last week.
In an additional announcement made alongside Furstwurld founder Bobby Furst, they announced that an anonymous donation matched all money raised at the May fundraiser, bringing the grand total of funding to approximately $100,000.
Zaharias explained that an anonymous family trust, whose members are acquainted with Furst, offered to match all funds raised at the event during the week prior.
Zaharias described the fundraising event as exceeding his expectations, and that the money raised would given to the non-profit organization and go into a specific account earmarked for the reopening the Furstwurld event space.
