Friday is the 50th annual Battle of the Bell, when the Yucca Valley High School Trojan football team will travel to Twentynine Palms to play their cross-basin rivals, the Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats. At stake is the Kiwanis Club Bell, which has been won by the Twentynine Palms Wildcats for the last 12 consecutive years, and 31 out of 49 years. The Wildcats and the Trojans are tied for third place in the DeAnza League; the winner of Friday’s game will move on to the CIF southern section play-offs. The Trojans are 7-and-2 overall, while the Wildcats are 6-and-3 overall. Kick off for the varsity game is 7 p.m. at Tom Nicoll Field in Twentynine Palms. The junior varsity game starts at 4 p.m. The junior varsity Wildcats are 7-2 overall; the junior varsity Trojans are 8-1. Fans are urged to arrive early.
