A free workshop set for Saturday, November 2 aims to teach attendees how to “defend the desert” against a range of threats. Tomorrow is the deadline to register to attend. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has more on how you can participate…
The California Desert Coalition hosts a free Defend the Desert Workshop, a follow up to a related workshop held last May. Attendees will learn new strategies and tactics related to the California Environmental Quality Act, or CEQA, which can protect desert communities and ecosystems from poor environmental planning. CEQA is a landmark state environmental law that guides governmental decision making in California. Set for Saturday, November 2 from 9:30 to 3 p.m. at the Yucca Valley Community Center.
Attendees will build skills and learn to:
- understand CEQA and shape land use decisions,
- challenge and change inappropriate and inadequate elements, policies and goals,
- defend conservation areas, and
- craft substantive comments for consideration by decision makers.
Because space is limited, registration is recommended via email to [email protected] by October 25.
