A free tour of the World War II site, Camp Iron Mountain, is being offered for veterans and their families tomorrow, October 22, from 9:30 to 2:30. Camp Iron Mountain is part of an 18,000-square mile training area east of Twentynine Palms that was used by General George S. Patton to prepare troops for fighting in North Africa. The tour is being sponsored by Campaign for the California Desert and Vet Voice Foundation, to highlight the history of the area and the importance of protecting the historic site. The free tour includes transportation, lunch, refreshments, and a guide in character as a World War II soldier, but reservations are required. Call Sarah at 510-550-8170 or Steve at 313-420-9202.
