FREE SCREENING MONDAY OF SCIENCE FICTION MOVIE FILMED IN WONDER VALLEY

“Another Plan From Outer Space,” a sci-fi thriller filmed entirely in Wonder Valley, will screen locally at Smith’s Ranch Drive-In on October 22. Executive producer and actor Hans Hernke will be guests on the Up Close Show at 10 a.m. today, October 19. Reporter Heather Clisby recently caught up with Hernke to talk about the film…

In summer of 2017, a film crew came to Wonder Valley at the behest of writer and director, Lance Polland. who wrote a script called originally “The Doomed” before it became “Another Plan From Outer Space.” Shot in black and white, the low-budget production depicts five astronauts who have crash-landed on Earth after completing their Mars mission. Executive producer Hans Hernke, who also plays Lt. Brooks in the film, described the experience.

“There was just a big mountain that we would go out to every day and, I mean, crowding all of us in that ranch house, it was a challenge because some of us had to share beds. It was almost like summer camp,” Hernke said.

Hernke says the film has had two previous screenings and the feedback was encouraging.

“People would come up to us and say, ‘Your film is completely different, I’ve never seen something like this before.’” Hernke said.

Hernke is hoping local residents really enjoy seeing a retro-style film shot in their own backyard.

“I hope that people get to have fun watching that way they watched film a long time ago. This will be really exciting to see a black-and-white retro film on a big screen at a drive-in theater,” Hernke said.

The free screening of “Another Plan From Outer Space” at Smith’s Drive-In in Twentynine Palms will be on Monday, October 22 at 7 pm.
