Theatre 29 is offering excerpts from “Urinetown the Musical” this weekend as part of the National Endowment for the Arts’ Big Read event, during which residents read and discuss the post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel “Station Eleven.” Theatre 29 will perform select numbers from “Urinetown the Musical,” a satirical comedy set in a dreary city where low-class citizens are negatively affected by a world-wide water shortage, which has led to the institution of pay-per-use public bathrooms and the jailing of unsanitary offenders. The full production of the musical was produced in 2015 at Theatre 29 and many of the original cast members are reuniting for this performance. This event is free of charge; no reservations are required. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Show times are Saturday, September 21 at 7 p.m. and Sunday September 22 at 2:30 p.m. at Theatre 29 on Sullivan Rd. in Twentynine Palms.
