Two local churches are hosting backpack giveaways for students returning to in-person learning in the Morongo Basin this August. Today (August 6), the First Assembly of God Church, located at 73331 Sullivan Road in Twentynine Palms, will hold their giveaway event beginning at 7 p.m. Tomorrow (August 7), The Lighthouse Christian Center, located at 5475 Sunburst Avenue in Joshua Tree, will host their giveaway event beginning at 10 a.m. for Kindergarten through 6th grade students only. Backpacks will be given at both locations on a first come first served basis. Children must be present and accompanied by an adult to receive a backpack at either location.
