FOUR TWENTYNINE PALMS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYERS NAMED ALL-CIF

Four Twentynine Palms Wildcats varsity football players were named to the CIF Southern Section Division 11 All-CIF football team Monday afternoon. Seniors Derek Sutherland and Michael Clark, along with juniors Hunter Tygart and K.J. Magwood, were selected to the 2016-17 team, after leading the Wildcats to the CIF Semi-Finals this past season. Derek Sutherland led the team in defensive pass interceptions with 12 for the season, the Division 11 leader in total interceptions, second in the state of California, and fourth in the nation in the defensive category. Senior Michael Clark was the anchor of the offensive and defensive line for the Wildcats this season. Clark finished second in total tackles in the entire division starting as a defensive lineman for the Wildcats. He made 136 total tackles along with eight quarterback sacks on the season. Junior linebacker K.J. Magwood finished fourth in division 11 with 126 total tackles and was an outstanding linebacker and running back for the Wildcats this past season. Offensive standout Hunter Tygart rushed for 1,186 yards on the season, scoring 10 touchdowns. Tygart also had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the CIF semi-final game. The Wildcats finished the season with a 9-4 overall record, reaching the semi-finals in CIF Division 11 playoffs.
