Four Sheriff’s deputies were injured and a man was taken into custody following a bizarre attempted break-in in Twentynine Palms Monday morning. About 7:45 a.m., Aulton Miles, 34, who was barefoot and not wearing a shirt, hopped over a fence and knocked on the front door of a home in the 68900 block of Serrano Drive. When the homeowner refused to open it, he repeatedly rammed his shoulder into the door and the homeowner called 911. Miles grabbed a metal rod outside the home and started screaming as he used it to smash a sports car and a classic truck parked in the driveway. The suspect was a stranger to the victims. When deputies and CHP officers arrived, they struggled with Miles; witnesses said they tased him 18 times before they were finally able to subdue him. During the struggle, four deputies were injured; Miles and one deputy were taken to local hospitals by ambulance for treatment, two others received minor injuries and a Sheriff’s sergeant received moderate injuries. Aulton Miles was arrested for assault with serious injuries and felony vandalism, booked at West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $100,000.
