In a follow-up to our story last week about an unpermitted medical marijuana dispensary in Morongo Valley, Z107.7 News has learned that there are at least four marijuana delivery services in the Morongo Basin. The weed on wheels businesses will deliver anything from edibles to an ounce of bud. According to County code enforcement officer Doug Lorenman, the County can’t designate the doobie delivery services as a public nuisance because they don’t operate a storefront, and driving a private vehicle down a street does not constitute a public nuisance. However, he added that the delivery drivers could be prosecuted as transporting for sales since the only person who can legally deliver weed is a primary care provider. Lorenman says the law defines a primary care provider as someone who is responsible for the patient’s lodging, feeding, clothing, and health, and most delivery drivers do not meet those requirements. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Brad Toms said the Sheriff’s Department is aware of the delivery services and is looking into them. He added, “Marijuana laws change almost daily and it’s becoming harder and harder to enforce them.”
