FOUR INJURED IN CRASH WITH TRASH TRUCK IN TWENTYINE PALMS

Updated: 12:30 p.m. 2/12/19

Four people were injured when an SUV and Burrtech trash truck collided in Twentynine Palms Monday morning. County Fire Battalion Chief Donnie Viloria said about 11:15, rescue personnel were called to the intersection of Utah Trail and Highway 62 where they found the trash truck had pushed the passenger-side doors of the Chevy Surburban about one foot into the vehicle. A four-year-old child was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center to meet a helicopter and then flown to Loma Linda Medical Center. Viloria said the child was not in a car seat. The other passengers—two women and one man—had to be extricated, although not with the Jaws of Life. They were all taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The Sheriff’s Department says the woman driving the Suburban was traveling southbound on Utah Trail and did not see the trash truck approaching eastbound on the highway, and pulled out in front of it.
