A former Marine who pleaded guilty last month to shaking a baby so hard that she went into a coma was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison. John Jeter, who turns 28 on Sunday, was watching his girlfriend’s 5½-month old baby on November 19, 2014, in the 6100 block of Begonia Place in Joshua Tree, with instructions to changer her and feed her while her mother was doing errands. When the infant started crying, he picked her up
and shook her so hard that her head flopped back and forth, she gasped, her eyes went blank, and she started foaming from the mouth. The shaking caused her brain to swell and bleed and she went into a coma. John Jeter pleaded guilty June 1 and was sentenced Thursday to nine years in state
prison in Chino for attempted murder and six years for gross bodily injury on a child less than five years old. The child’s current condition is unknown.
