A former Marine accused of shaking a baby so hard that she went into a coma pleaded guilty earlier this month to attempted murder. John Jeter, 27, was watching his girlfriend’s 5½-month old baby on November 19, 2014, in the 6100 block of Begonia Place in Joshua Tree, with instructions to changer her and feed her while her mother was doing errands. When the infant started crying, he picked her up and shook her so hard that her head flopped back and forth, she gasped, her eyes went blank, and she started foaming from the mouth. The shaking caused her brain to swell and bleed and she went into a coma. John Jeter pleaded guilty June 1 to attempted murder and gross bodily injury on a child less than five years old. He will be sentenced on July 10. The child’s current condition is unknown.
