With rain in the forecast, there comes the very real threat of flash flooding. When rain threatens, the National Weather Service may issue flood
watches or flood warnings here on Z107.7. A flood watch means a flood is possible, while a flood warning means that flooding is happening or will
happen soon. Reporter Eric Knabe has the following tips to stay safe and prepared during flash floods…
When it rains, first check weather and traffic condition before you leave. Listen to Z107.7 for current conditions. Don’t drive if you don’t have to, and don’t play or swim in a flood channel. Don’t try to walk or drive through a flooded road. Six inches of swiftly flowing water can knock you off your feet, and two feet of floodwater can carry away most vehicles, including pickup trucks and SUVs. Be especially cautious at night, when it’s hard to see the danger. Have on hand, water, snacks, a charged phone with charger and a pair of sturdy shoes in case of emergency.
