A man was arrested Thursday after children were found living in filthy conditions at a home in Yucca Valley. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy conducted a security check on a home in the 6600 block of Hanford Avenue in Yucca Valley about 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The deputy noted that the front yard had piles of trash and broken glass, as well as a broken-down car. The front door appeared to have been forced open at some time in the past. Inside the house, the deputy contacted a woman who allowed the deputy to look around the house. Inside were piles of trash, empty liquor bottles and more broken glass on the floor. There also were exposed electrical wires. Seven children were living at the location along with three adults. The woman was too intoxicated to answer the deputy’s questions and was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center for treatment. Kevin Cooke, 45, of Yucca Valley, was arrested for investigation of cruelty to a child. Cooke was booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with bail set at $100,000. Five children were taken into custody by Child Protective Services; the remaining two were listed as runaways.
