Law enforcement and first responders from throughout the Morongo Basin gathered together Wednesday for a fiery hot nacho-eating competition to benefit the Sheriff’s Department Explorer Scout Program. Managing editor Tami Roleff was there and watched as 16 competitors chowed down…
It’s official: the “baddest of the bad” is Sheriff’s Deputy John Arden, who chowed down a plate of nachos with beans, carne asada, onions, and a secret hot sauce, in 4 minutes, 55 seconds, breaking the previous record of 6:40. The nachos were served by Mexican Street Tacos of Twentynine Palms, and the 16 competitors had 30 minutes to eat everything on the plate. Coming in second place was Deputy Shane Crowl, and third place was Probation Officer Luis Salazar. Most of the 16 competitors finished their nacho plate in the designated 30 minutes. Among the volunteers who competed were representatives from the Sheriff’s Department, CHP, Probation, County Fire, Combat Fire, NCIS, PMO, and CID.
The taco lunch and nacho-eating competition raised $600 for the Sheriff’s Explorer Scout program.
