FIRST RESPONDERS COMPETITION YESTERDAY BENEFITS SHERIFF’S EXPLORERS

The plate of super hot nachos that had to be consumed in its entirety in 30 minutes. The rules required that even if a bean or nacho fell to the ground, the competitor had to pick it up and eat it.

It’s official: the “baddest of the bad” is Sheriff’s Deputy John Arden, who chowed down a plate of nachos with beans, carne asada, onions, and a secret hot sauce, in 4 minutes, 55 seconds, breaking the previous record of 6:40. The nachos were served by Mexican Street Tacos of Twentynine Palms, and the 16 competitors had 30 minutes to eat everything on the plate. Coming in second place was Deputy Shane Crowl, and third place was Probation Officer Luis Salazar. Most of the 16 competitors finished their nacho plate in the designated 30 minutes. Among the volunteers who competed were representatives from the Sheriff’s Department, CHP, Probation, County Fire, Combat Fire, NCIS, PMO, and CID.
The taco lunch and nacho-eating competition raised $600 for the Sheriff’s Explorer Scout program.
