New Year’s means new beginnings. For two couples at a Joshua Tree hospital over the weekend, that platitude literally came true. Reporter David Haldane tells the story…
Her name is Khloe. At 11:16 a.m. on New Years Day, Khloe’s mom was in a world of pain. Eventually it all worked out, though. And that’s how Karlene and Robert Waldron, of Yucca Valley, welcomed their daughter into the world as Hi-Desert Medical Center’s first new baby of 2018.
“I’m sore, but I’m so happy that she’s here,” Khloe’s new mom said when it was all over. “It’s never gonna happen again. I’m done.”
Dad’s reaction was somewhat different. “She’s got really big feet,” he said. “She can probably walk on water and not fall through.”
The big feet are something of an anomaly, given Khloe’s initial weigh-in of only 4 pounds, 10 ounces. Whatever heft was lacking there, however, was more than compensated for right next door where, nearly nine hours later, 8-lb 1 oz. Cooper Daniel Willis made his entrance, becoming the hospital’s first 2018 baby boy.
All things considered, hospital staff say, an auspicious beginning for a very New Year.
