FIREWOOD IN JTNP

For many people, camping isn’t camping without a campfire. Ranger Pam Tripp advises how to enjoy the experience responsibly…
Whenever camping, one of the main events of a good camping trip is the campfire. There is nothing like the smell of campfire smoke when enjoying the outdoors and cool evening. At Joshua Tree National Park all designated camp sites have fire rings. Visitors must bring their own firewood, however, as it is prohibited for anyone to gather wood or kindling of any kind within the park boundary. This helps to protect our park’s vegetation and allows the insects and animals to continue to use the shelter and sustenance of fallen trees and other plants. The park and local communities encourage visitors to purchase firewood and kindling at the stores and establishments throughout the areas surrounding the national park. Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, and Yucca Valley are the nearest towns along the Northern border of the park, while to the south is the Coachella Valley and its many towns. For more information about bringing or buying firewood, call 760-367-5500. For Z107.7, this is Park Ranger Pam Tripp, inviting you to experience your American landscape.
