A deck fire at a home in Yucca Valley early this morning proved challenging to firefighters due to the steep terrain. County Fire Battalion Chief Donnie Viloria said a resident in the 6100 block of Del Rio Way woke up about 3 a.m. and smelled smoke. He woke up the other three residents in the house and they were all able to get outside safely. Once on scene, firefighters discovered the home’s deck was burning. Due to the sheer drop-off under the deck, firefighters had a difficult time putting out the blaze, but still had it knocked down in about 15 minutes. Viloria said the fire did extend into the house, but the damage is limited and the home is still livable. The cause is under investigation.
