Known as “Fireman Joe”, Firefighter Jose Zambrano will be running though the Morongo Basin today. Zambrano started from the LA County Fire museum in Bellflower June 22, and will be running through the Morongo Basin—through Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree—ending his day at the Twentynine Palms Fire Station. He will be averaging 50-plus miles a day to reach the site of where 19 firefighters from the Granite Mountain Hotshots died on the Yarnell Fire on June 30, 2013. He plans to arrive on June 30, to memorialize the five-year anniversary of the event. He will be running in full gear including an air pack for close to 380 miles. He has run 82 marathons in full gear for charities mostly St. Jude’s Hospital. This can be found on Facebook.com/RunInFullGear.
