Fire restrictions on the San Bernardino National Forest will be elevated as of yesterday. The changes include limiting campfires to selected sites, increased restrictions on smoking, and the prohibition of welding and other open-flame activities without the proper permits. Violators may be fined $5,000 to $10,000 and could face jail time. The restrictions are in effect through December 31, but may be lifted earlier if conditions improve. A list of campgrounds and picnic areas affected by the fire restrictions can be found in the PDF file download above.
