While the Bureau of Land Management has loosened fire restrictions on portions of the California Desert District area, (which includes Imperial County and parts of San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, Inyo, Mono, and Kern counties,) most fires and open flames of any type are still prohibited on BLM lands in the Morongo Basin. The Stage III restrictions still in effect in the Morongo Basin allow only controlled flame devices such as portable stoves and lanterns with shut-off valves; smoking is allowed only in enclosed vehicles. In addition, recreational shooting is still prohibited on all BLM-managed lands in western San Bernardino County. The BLM order is in effect through December 31, unless terminated earlier.
