Fire in Landers leads to second arrest for man failing to register as a sex offender

A call for a fire led to the arrest of an unregistered sex offender in Landers.

At around 6 p.m. Sunday, San Bernardino County Fire and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of smoke seen at a home in the 300 block of Wamego Trail. Deputies say they contacted Frank Brown, 42, who lived on the property and was found to be out of compliance as a sex registrant. Deputies report that Brown attempted to flee on foot and when they caught up with him there was a struggle before he was placed under arrest.

Frank Brown was arrested on suspicion of failing to register as a sex offender, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a controlled substance, and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $150,000 bail.

Brown failed to register as a sex offender in 2020.
