Fire hydrant cut off and stolen in Twentynine Palms

A fire hydrant was stolen in Twentynine Palms on Sunday afternoon (June 30).

A yellow fire hydrant near the intersection of David Way and Sierra Avenue, near Smith’s Ranch Drive In near Adobe Road, was completely removed. It is unknown when the water equipment was stolen, but the theft was discovered at around 3:30 pm. on Sunday. Employees of the business told responding Sheriff’s Deputies that there was a “lot of water.”

Deputies say that unknown subjects turned water off to the hydrant, then cut the entire head of the fire hydrant off. They believe that the suspects carried the hydrant off via a quad runner or bicycle.

The last time the fire hydrant was seen was on June 18 by Twentynine Palms Water District Employees. They estimated the value of the equipment at $4,000.
