FIRE DESTROYS MERCEDES IN YUCCA VALLEY

Yucca Valley firefighters had a difficult time putting out a car fire Thursday afternoon due to leaking fuel. County Fire Captain Jay Dimoff said about 12:30 p.m., an older model Mercedes was traveling north on Old Woman Springs road when the driver noticed smoke coming into the car from the dashboard. The driver pulled the car over at Buena Suerte Avenue, poured some water on the fire in the engine compartment, but couldn’t put out the fire in the dash. Dimoff said the the Mercedes was blazing when they arrived. The flames had burned a hole in the fuel line, and fuel was leaking on the ground, feeding the fire. Dimoff said it took about 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
