FIRE DESTROYS HOUSE IN MORONGO VALLEY EARLY FRIDAY MORNING

A Morongo Valley home suffered significant damage due to an early morning fire Friday. According to Morongo Valley Fire Captain Jeff Rarey, firefighters from Morongo Valley, CalFire, Yucca Valley, Yucca Mesa, and a breathing support unit from Loma Linda were called to a structure fire at 6:14 a.m. in the 9800 block of Terrace Drive. Arriving firefighters found smoke coming from the eaves all the way around the home, with the fire burning in the attic. CalFire fire fighters cut a hole in the roof for ventilation, and discovered the home had two roofs; a flat roof covered by a pitched roof. Rarey said the two roofs saved the home from receiving even more damage. Firefighters had the fire contained by 7 a.m., but Morongo Valley firefighters were at the home until about 11 a.m. mopping up. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but a fireplace is suspected. The four residents at home at the time of the fire suffered minor injuries when they attempted to put out the blaze.
