FIRE DAMAGES TWENTYNINE PALMS HOUSE UNDER RENOVATION

A house under renovation was damaged in a fire in Twentynine Palms Saturday morning. County Fire Captain Jay Dimoff said workers had been using a torch to patch the roof of a vacant home in the 7300 block of Araby Avenue. They left to get a drink, and when they came back about 9:45 a.m., the roof was on fire. Fire crews from Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, and the Combat Center found heavy smoke coming from the attic of the home. They had the fire under control in about 25 minutes, and were able to contain the fire to the attic; however, there was significant smoke and water damage to the living areas of the house. The cause was determined to be accidental. There were no injuries.
