A Twentynine Palms home was extensively damaged by a fire early Sunday morning. According to Twentynine Palms Fire firefighter Lane McGivern, when firefighters arrived at the structure fire in the 74600 block of Old Dale Road about 1:13 a.m., they found smoke and flames showing from the windows, doors, and rear or the single-family home. Lane said firefighters searched the home to make sure no one was trapped inside, and began an aggressive attack on the blaze, although their efforts were hampered by a partial roof collapse. With the help of San Bernardino County firefighters and the Combat Center, the fire was under control in about 30 minutes. Lane estimated structure and property loss at $60,000 to $70,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the county’s arson and bomb squad.
