Fights at Yucca Valley High School Lead to Lockdown, Cancellation of “Battle of the Bell” Football Game

A series of escalating altercations between students at Yucca Valley High School today (October 28) led to a lockdown of the campus and the rescheduling of tonight’s historic “Battle of the Bell” high school football game.

According to the Morongo Unified School District, an altercation started between students at around 11 a.m. this morning. While administration worked to end the initial altercation, several other student altercations erupted. All other students were advised to return to classes, and the campus was placed on a campus-wide lockdown. Administrators requested assistance from the Sheriff’s Department, and deputies arrived as an additional presence on the campus.

MUSD administration, on the advisement of law enforcement officers, has announced that they will be rescheduling tonight’s high school football game between Yucca Valley High School and Twentynine Palms High School. The game, which is an anticipated annual game between the Morongo Basin’s two high school football teams, was set to be held tonight at Twentynine Palms Junior High School. The game has been rescheduled in consideration of the safety of students and their family. No new date has been provided for the game.
