Today (October 29), just after 3 p.m., Susan Anderson, 60 of Joshua Tree, was driving a red 2012 Kia Sportage northbound on Sunfair Road south of 4th Street. At the same time, Juhui Chen, 37 of Pomona, was driving a white 2021 Dodge 2500 pulling a 23-foot travel trailer northbound on Sunfair Road directly in front of the Kia. Kenneth Jayes, 76 of Joshua Tree, was driving a white 2014 Ford Escape southbound on Sunfair Road approaching 4th Street with passenger, Sally Jayes, 68 also of Joshua Tree. Anderson attempted to pass the Dodge and travel trailer over double yellow lines, in the direct path of the Ford. The Kia and Ford collided head-on and the crash pushed the Kia into the rear of the travel trailer. Both lanes were blocked until emergency personnel arrived. Susan Anderson was evaluated and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center for a complaint of pain injuries. Kenneth and Sally Jayes were transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center with minor injuries. Chen did not sustain any injuries. All parties were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
