A Landers man was arrested Saturday, accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to a sheriff’s report, a deputy stopped Alonso Claros, 43, near the 5600 block of Adobe Road about 6 a.m. Saturday morning because he was riding an unlicensed off-road vehicle, and riding without a helmet. The report states that Claros stopped the quad in front of a home, unlocked the gate, and fled on foot into the property, all while ignoring the deputy’s commands to stop. The deputy states that while pursuing the suspect, Claros threw a loaded handgun across Linn Road. The deputy searched the residence and found two methamphetamine pipes in plain view. Alonso Claros was arrested for investigation of being a felon in possession of a firearm, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000.
