A Joshua Tree convicted felon was arrested Tuesday on five warrants and for being in possession of ammunition. Morongo Basin deputies learned that Christopher Merchant, 40, who was wanted on five drug- and DUI-related warrants, was at Balsa Avenue and Paxton Road about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. During a search of Merchant’s vehicle, deputies found multiple rounds from a .22 caliber rifle and two-20 gauge shotgun shells in his car. Merchant is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing ammunition. Christopher Merchant was arrested on suspicion of possession of ammunition, and on his felony warrants, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $135,000.
