A convicted felon was arrested in Twentynine Palms Wednesday after he was seen walking down the street with a weapon in plain view. According to a Sheriff’s report, shortly before 8 a.m., a resident in the 72600 block of Juanita Drive reported seeing Darkise Gorman, 31, of Los Angeles, walking toward Highway 62 carrying a handgun. Deputies contacted Gorman, whom they determined to be a felon, and searched him and his backpack. Deputies found a handgun with its serial number filed off. Darkise Gorman was arrested for investigation of being a felon in possession of a handgun, and removing the serial number of a weapon. He was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $50,000. In 2006, when Gorman was 22, Gorman was convicted of unlawful sex with a minor under 16 and sentenced to four years in state prison.
